Eventful Day

Our venture to a new park turned out successfully, despite an eventful beginning. Wes, Sophia, and I all suffer from motion sickness at times, but I hoped Alathea was immune. I don't know what it is about driving in London, but we seem to suffer more frequently here than elsewhere. Maybe it's the roundabouts, stop and go traffic, or weaving around oncoming traffic and parked cars? The warmth and lack of ventilation on the bus yesterday, even with the windows cracked as far as they'd go, certainly didn't help. I tried sleeping to combat the woozy feeling in my head, wondering how Alathea would fare in her buggy, facing backward (which I find makes motion sickness worse).

I got my answer a ways before our destination. The driver let us off the bus outside a large supermarket, so we could use the facilities. Unfortunately we had to strip Alathea down to her diaper, as her clothes and the buggy were a mess. I felt rather conspicuous wandering down the aisles of the store with a baby in nothing but a diaper, only to find the store didn't stock children's clothes. Fortunately we found some tank tops in the small school uniform section that were her size and decided to walk the rest of the way to the park with baby in tank-top and diaper, avoiding buses at all costs...

Once there the kids enjoyed seeing waterfowl in the lake, various animals in the little farm, as well as life-sized stone dinosaurs built in 1852. An ice cream, time at the playground, and a train ride home rounded off the day.
