After singing about them so nicely, I thought Alathea ought to actually experience a currant bun. I don't think we have a bakery locally, so this was the closest I came across at our supermarket. I think it was more like a raisin bun, but it was fat and round with a cherry on top!

Currant Buns
Alathea came home from preschool singing this catchy number song. It must be one of those nursery rhymes that didn't make it to America. At least I don't remember hearing it, and I wager it's fairly old, as a currant bun sure doesn't cost a penny anymore.

Sports Day
Alathea and I cheered Sophia on in a variety of track and field type events at school this morning: egg and spoon race, hurdles, running, howler throw, space hopper bounce, sack race, and bean bag relay.

Maths Monkey
Sophia came home from school this weekend with a little monkey who wanted us to do "maths" with him. So among other things, Sophia and the monkey and I measured ingredients for making French Toast--both educational and yummy!

Sophia's Class Assembly Part 2
"There are three kinds of soil. These represent the different people we meet in our lives."
"Some people listen to God and blossom like flowers, but some choose to turn away from Him."
Then the class sings a song about life's being like a mountain climb.
Sophia's Class Assembly Part 1
Sophia's class led their school's daily act of worship Wednesday. The topic was Making Good Choices and Reaching Your Targets. They reenacted the Parable of the Sower from Matthew 13 and performed two songs.
The front row of children were seeds that fell on the path and didn't grow at all. Sophia's row were seeds that grew a little. The back row were seeds that fell on good soil and were fruitful. The song in this video clip is about planting a seed and letting it grow.

Sophia Turns 6!
For her birthday party this year, I took Sophia and her best friend on a mystery trip they'd been anticipating for a long time. Sophia's been interested in Space this school-year, so all the festivities revolved around that theme.
