How They Partied

Sophia and Preschool Friends at Princess Birthday Party

"Musical Statues" seems to be a must-have at children's birthday parties in the UK. I think you're supposed to dance to the music and then assume the best pose when the music stops, for which you get a prize. At least that was how it worked at this 3 and 4-year-olds party.

Quoting Sophia

"You say mice when there's more mouses than one. And you say octopi when there's more octopuses than one."

"I think that was the bug in my throat."
Explanation needed on this one: Sophia had a really bad cold, so I told her her symptoms were her body's attempt to get the "bug" out of her. A few days later she had the above epiphany when she saw a fly on our window.

Baby Genius?

Facebookers, see http://wbsenglish.blogspot.com to view this video of Alathea.

Being her parent, I realize everything that follows is completely biased...
I've only shown Alathea how to wave "bye-bye" a few times before yesterday (when I took this video).

So, yesterday she dropped her cup on the floor, and I said, "Bye-bye, cup," as in, I'm not giving it back, and Alathea responded by waving for the first time! I was pretty proud of the connection she made...

Sleeping Beauties

This may be the closest Sophia will ever come to princesshood. :-) I took these photos one day when I went in to wake the girls from their nap and they were both dead to the world.

Zoom in on Alathea

I like the wrinkled-nose smile Alathea does now.

Ode to Princesses

Facebookers, see http://wbsenglish.blogspot.com to view this video of Sophia.

An original tune:

Transcript: "...And you are my princess. And I love princesses more than princes. I'm a prince, and this princess is named Cinderella. And Cinderella is..."

Zoom in on Sophia

"Princess" is probably the best one-word summary I can give of Sophia's recent activity.

Here's a picture of Mommy Sophia with her daughters in princess dresses. Unfortunately they also have Disney princess names: Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, and Cinderella (left to right).

Here are Sophia and her friend, Izzy, in a princess book-a-thon:

Harvest

Harvest is a nice annual Christian celebration that churches in the UK observe in late September or early October. As Americans often do at Thanksgiving, people here bring food to church to be distributed to needy individuals in the community, and we make time to thank God for providing our daily bread.

Here are a couple of photos of the girls with the harvest flowers at church:
I guess for the time being, if I get one child smiling in a photo and the other one looking at the camera, I should consider that a success?Sophia was MIA for this shot. She preferred running around the church with her pal, Izzy. Alathea, wishing she could run like her big sister, but being unable to, stayed put and smiled nicely.

Freshers' Week Photos

Students giving out information about the Christian Union at London South Bank University.
Lucy, a Taiwanese student from Kings College London Guys Campus, has a lot of questions about Christianity and will start studying the Bible with Wes or Sadie soon.
Sadie, Wes' Relay Worker (intern), helps plug the London South Bank University CU to incoming students at their Freshers' Faire.
Michael, a student at Greenwich Maritime University, is trying to start a CU on his campus.
