Sophia's Class Assembly

Sophia goes to a state school, but at the same time it's a Church of England (Anglican) school--no separation of church and state here. British schools are required by law to have a daily "act of worship," and Sophia's school takes its Christian ethos seriously. Ministers from several local churches (including ours) speak at school assemblies. The children also take turns leading assembly.

Here are clips of Sophia's parts in her class' debut. Their topic was instead of complaining that things are unfair, we should be grateful for all we have. Some of the children acted out the story of the Prodigal Son to illustrate this lesson.
Sophia complains it's unfair that "I'm not allowed to have sweets after school!"

Sophia sees the other side of the coin: "If I don't eat sweets my teeth will stay healthy, and I'll be able to eat my lovely dinner!"

Song: "for the sun in the sky, for my mom and my dad, for my piece of apple pie, for my home on the ground, for His love that's all around--that's why I say 'thanks' every day. Because a grateful heart is a happy heart. 'I'm glad for what I have'--that's an easy way to start--for the love that He shares 'cause He listens to my prayers--that's why I say 'thanks' every day.
